A complete exterior makeover in Pasadena, Maryland

Apper Construction completed a full siding replacement for a homeowner in Pasadena, MD. Like many homes in Anne Arundel County, this property had aging exterior siding showing years of wear from Maryland weather. The homeowner wanted an attractive, low-maintenance exterior with better protection against moisture and wind.

After inspecting the home, we replaced the existing siding with CertainTeed Double 5" Dutchlap Monogram/MainStreet vinyl siding in White — one of the most trusted siding products for durability, appearance, and long-term performance. The project covered about 1,450 square feet of exterior wall.

Preparing the home the right way

A quality siding install starts before the first panel goes on. We removed and hauled away all the old siding to expose the wall structure, then inspected the sheathing and framing for hidden damage. Damaged plywood, OSB, studs, or fascia get replaced before new materials go on — handling it early prevents moisture intrusion and protects the home for years.

A weather-resistant barrier

With the walls prepped, we installed Tyvek House Wrap over the entire exterior. It keeps wind-driven rain out while letting any trapped moisture escape — one of the most important steps for the lifespan and energy efficiency of the exterior.

Premium CertainTeed vinyl siding

The homeowner chose CertainTeed Double 5" Dutchlap Monogram/MainStreet in White. Installation included starter strips; J-channel around all windows and doors; outside and inside corner posts; utility trim beneath windows and soffits; fastening to manufacturer spec; and OSI QUAD sealant at every critical joint.

Soffits, fascia, and trim

We replaced the soffits, fascia, and rake trim. New hidden-vent vinyl soffit panels improve attic ventilation, and white aluminum coil wraps the fascia and rake boards for a clean, maintenance-free finish. We also wrapped the roof rake and the front bay window, hung three pairs of black shutters, and set new light and outlet mounting blocks.

One honest note

During the work we noticed several gutter fasteners pulling away from the fascia, especially on the rear. The gutters were still functional, so we flagged them for future replacement instead of adding cost the homeowner did not need yet.

The result
